Categories

In order to be eligible for a category, both team members must be within the age brackets otherwise the age of the youngest rider determines category (apart from junior riders). Riders must be at least 16 years of age to enter.

  • Standard Entry Fee (once 100 riders reached or from 1st September - 30th November) - $549.00 per rider

NZ MTB Stage Race Champions

For the first time, the Volcanic Epic and The Prospector MTB Stage Race will be offering the ultimate MTB stage race prize.
Any team competing across both events with the same team name and members will be eligible to win the $500 cash prize. With a prize for men’s, women’s and mixed teams, winners are calculated by total race time across both events.

Withdrawals, Refunds and Transfers

Withdrawal & Refunds

If you cannot participate in the Prospector MTB event entry fee refunds can be requested up until 6pm, 31st January 2022 to receive 50% of their entry fee. All entry fees are non-refundable after 6pm, 31st January 2022 and we cannot refund entry fees after this date. Requests for refunds must be notified to the organiser by emailing info@prospectormtb.co.nz.

It is the sole responsibility to the participant to ensure the Prospector Event organisation has received your communication. If you have not heard from us within 7 days of this request, please call us on 0273058091. Please allow up to 7-14 days for your refund to be processed.  Any additional purchases (including but not limited to) processing fees, Merchandise purchase, or any other fees paid at the time of entry are non-refundable at any time.

Transfers

Participants may request to transfer their entry to someone else up until 6pm, 31st January 2022.

The Participant wishing to transfer must notify the event organisation via info@prospectormtb.co.nz , pay a $50 transfer fee and provide the name and contact details of the replacement rider. We will then make contact with the replacement rider in order to officiate the transfer.

No transfers can be made after 6pm, 31st January 2022.

COVID-19

In the event of a Level 3 0r 4 COVID-19 Lockdown we will offer riders a choice of a full refund of their entry fee (excludes processing fee, merchandise, and other purchases) to maintain their entry for a postponed date, or a deferral to the following years event.

In the event New Zealand is in Level 2, or certain areas of the country are in various lockdown levels, our race will proceed as planned with systems brought in to keep in line with government regulations which may mean that riders from a certain area may not be able to participate.

Mandatory Gear

Each Rider must carry:

1x Windproof, water resistant jacket

1x Spare Tube (if tubeless set-up), 2xTubes if non-tubeless

1x Spare chain link

Each Team/Individual must carry:

  • Bike tool kit – including Chain breaker, multi tool, tyre patch kit, tyre lever, bike pump
  • Basic first aid kit – includingwhistle, band-aids, tape, gauze.

We highly recommend that you have your bike fully serviced and checked at your local Bike shop prior to travelling to the Prospector.

We will be doing safety checks on riders helmets and bikes at registration, to ensure that the bike frame, tyres and brakes are in a safe condition to take part in the event.

EVENT TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The most enjoyable part of registering, our event waiver, terms and conditions. Please read and understand before entering.

RACE RULES

Please take the time to familiarise yourself with our race rules
  • All riders will attend all event stage briefings
  • Riders will be courteous towards one another whilst racing.
  • Riders will protect and respect the environment they are racing in. This means no intentional skidding or damaging of plant life.
  • Riders will not litter or leave any rubbish behind in any of the stages. Rubbish is only allowed to be discarded at the events aid stations
  • Riders will follow all race instructions given to them at the briefing and must adhere to the volunteers and marshals instructions at all times.
  • A rider may not receive outside support whilst on course and must carry the necessary repairs & equipment with them.
  • Assistance will only be given in the feed / technical assistance zones; however riders must be able to fix their own bike.
  • A tool kit and basic spares such as tubes, chain links, lube and tools will be available at the designated aid stations. The work needs to be carried out by the rider him/herself or with the help of another rider.
  • Riders can only receive extra food & or hydration from their own supporters at the designated aid station and nowhere else on course.
  • Riders will obey all NZ road rules when riding and racing on public roads
  • You must read and understand all sections of the event website relating to the entry policies
  • Only registered riders are able take part in the event.
  • Your race number must be clearly visible and attached to the front of your bike.
  • The Race Directors reserve the right to withdraw any competitor they feel is in distress and would not be capable of completing the event at any stage.
  • You must keep to the marked trail and not traverse private farm property to cut the course
  • iPods/headphones are not allowed as there may be emergency vehicles moving through the course.
  • Bikes must be in good condition and well maintained with good tyres and brakes. It is highly recommended that your bikes are checked by a professional mechanic prior to the event
  • Cycle helmets must be NZ Standards approved and worn at all times while on course
  • E-Bikes are only permitted one battery swap per stage, to be carried out at the aid station.
  • Riders are not allowed to change bikes during the race
  • A minor breach of any race rules will see a team/rider penalised  between 30sec – 5min on to their overall time
  • A major breach of the rules that bring the integrity or reputation on the event may see a team/rider disqualified from the race
  • Any rider found to be under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs with be removed from the event and band from future events held by the organisers.
  • A participant that locates another participant who is injured in a crash MUST STOP to make sure that person is okay.
  • If the participant is injured to the extent they need medical support, you MUST stay with him/her and send the next participant to the next marshal to report the medical incident.
  • The participants that stop to assist will be given a time adjustment based on their average speed
  • Team riders must stay with 2min of each other during the entire event. Time is taken from the last participant home.
  • Pairs are not permitted to physically attach themselves to their partner with the exception of their hand
